Shavano Park and Military Hwy

Basic overview of the NW Military Hwy Improvement Project

Planned improvements:

  • Adding a continuous center-turn lane
  • Adding sidewalks and bicycle accommodations

You can expect that the earliest construction is to begin will be winter  of 2020 for the NW Military Highway Improvement Project.

The City Shavano Park started with the planning meetings with TxDOT on the design and development of the project back in 2015. As of  today the TxDOT plan is consistent with the City’s vision, and includes on-street bike lanes, road curbs, and a continuous 2-way center turn lane. The Shavano Park City staff continues to meet with TxDOT and stress that the city’s residents desire for off-street sidewalks that would meander around roadway trees to increase the safety of locals walking along NW Military Highway and at the same time save as many trees as possible. Shavano Park intends to split as many costs with TxDOT for any necessary relocation of water lines. This relationship will reduce the costs due to efficiency in managing the entire project.
